The Asset Compliance Program can be applied to new or existing devices and transforms the once off annual checkup (independent inspection) event, to a regular background process, and in doing so, meets the independent inspection requirements process.

Annual Inspection

Annual Inspections of amusement devices have typically been guided by the use of Australian Standards, the National Audit Tool and OEM instruction. In many cases, this guidance framework has become outdated, insufficient (in the eyes of the Law) and is plagued by blind spots.

The outcomes of such inspections have been inadequate, unachievable, sometimes irrelevant, or influenced by the inspector’s preference.

Similar to Aidaptive’s Asset Management gap analysis, our Annual Inspection Program identifies the strengths and weaknesses and improvement opportunities for complaint maintenance and operation of amusement devices.

Using a combination of references and tools, Aidaptive produces a more relevant and comprehensive device assessment. Insurers and Authorities recognizing these superior processes and the outcomes they provide.

Code of Practice Audit

In 2024, a Code of Practice (CoP) was introduced into Queensland regulations and is being watched by other Australian jurisdictions. A code of practice is a guide to achieving the standards of occupational safety and health required under legislation, developed for a specific industry or occupation. Some CoPs are voluntary; however the Amusement CoP is statutory in Queensland (mandatory) and must be complied with.

The CoP is a big document, with more than 800 points of compliance, and despite its daunting size, Aidaptive has a guided pathway process to help you meet your legal and insurance obligations.

Conducted as a confidential process, Aidaptive’s CoP Tool measures this gap, allowing you to see the size and significance of the compliance shortfall, and more importantly, the areas requiring correction.

Correct classification of an amusement device is critical. Disagreements between owners and Regulators are costly and can lead to expensive and sometimes unnecessary forced compliance requirements.

Aidaptive applies knowledge from local and international standards, assessment methods, and combined with OEM design, theoretical testing and if required installed device testing to forms part of the supporting evidence – justifying class determination and supporting the Patron Restraint Assessment process.

Our detailed Intrinsic Safety Assessment can assist in this matter, potentially lowering the classification by 1 class.

Where attributes of the device classification evaluation are borderline onto another class, we look at mitigating factors that can be applied to prevent exceeding the desired classification limits – saving costs and potentially expanding the patron audience.

Patron Containment & Restraint Assessment

A restraint assessment is required for all registered amusement devices. It is critically important to understand the restraint capabilities for the device, how that matches with the intended patrons and does this meet the minimum requirements set out in relevant jurisdiction Standards.

Aidaptive engineers are well skilled in ergonomics and the application of anthropometric data to amusement devices. Careful assessment of acceleration data and applying interpretation guidance from different international standards, provides for a reasonable and defendable assessment outcome.

In preparing restraint assessments, we take guidance from design standards used across the globe and current anthropometric data, allowing a more realistic assessment of what will be expected, what patron controls/limitations should be considered, and if the OEM restraints actually meet the design requirements of prevailing standards.

The process of Design and Plant Registration has become increasingly complicated in recent years, with Regulators requiring more information, and the Australian Standards growing older.

With hardly any amusement devices produced in Australia, and being such a small market, it is necessary to make Design Registration assessment against foreign standards and determine if this provides an equivalent degree of safety as might be required by local standards.

Where differences exist, they have to be carefully managed, documented and justified. This may require extended consultation with the Regulator’s technical representatives to determine a mutually acceptable outcome.

Plant Registration looks well beyond the device and into the capability of the Owner / Operator. Aidaptive supports you here too.

In addition to preparing the Plant Registration, Aidaptive is able to build the support documentation and operations and maintenance systems necessary to meet the requirements of a registered amusement device.

Aidaptive Consulting engineers in conjunction with our collaboration partners for Electrical and Structural, Network, Control and Maintenance engineering can manage and deliver the technical, application and approvals process – start to finish.

Many clients we speak to say that they know how to conduct a device evacuation and some clients have practiced this requirement.

Our experience confirms that until rescues and recoveries have been conducted under high pressure situations, the tools, skills, methods and competencies are not adequately developed.

The outcomes are typically an extended time delay in recovery of guests, resolution of the situation and an apparent general lack control, often leading to significant criticism.

Aidaptive Consulting have conducted dozens of high-tempo, real-life stress test evacuations. These events are designed to identify skill gaps, clarify roles and responsibilities, build competency and confirm the recovery equipment is fit for purpose.

If it’s a new ride being commissioned or the team has changed, Aidaptive can develop and lead the best role played, high-tempo test and development sessions for your team.
